Default [Guide] how to upgrade your psp firmware to 5.00 M33-6

i have noticed a lot people don't know how to upgrade their psp firmware, so i hope my this guide will help.

Take note: Remember to backup all your savedata
Official Firmware=OFW
Custom Firmware=CFW

Official Firmware(Can't play any downloaded game only can use UMD games)
what is Sony's Official Firmware? meaning it's firmware is untouched except by Sony's hands. Your firmware version should be a number without any extra tags like m33, OE, IE, LE or HX.

Custom Firmware (Can play downloaded games)
what is Custom Firmware? Custom firmware is a firmware that somebody modified the codes, so it allows you to run 3rd party applications on.

How to check my psp firmware version?

press left button to<< and press down till u see "System Settings" then press it.
go > press down button abit till u see "System Information" press it and u will see your psp firmware version..
Official Firmware dont have any extra tags like m33
Custom Firmware got the extra tags m33

Requirements:
  • Installation requires a PSP with 3.52 M33-3 = > < =4.01 M33-2 [fat PSP], or 3.60 m33< = 4.01 M33-2 [Slim PSP] Others and Offical sony firmwares shouldn't try it.
  • Battery 78% loaded,.

How to install 5.00 M33 CFW on your PSP:
  • Download the 5.00 M33 installer files to your computer.
  • Right click the files and click "extract here" (winrar needed)
  • Copy the UPDATE folder contained in the archive to /PSP/GAME folder
  • Navigate to the Game menu on the PSP and execute the program, it will not run unless there is 78% battery life.
  • Press X and the update process will start.
  • Once finished, the updater will ask you to press X or O to reboot. You MUST do this, otherwise you'll end up with a brick.
  • You've successfully installed 5.00 M33!
Upgrading to 5.00 M33-6

After installing 5.00 M33, it is recommended to apply the latest update for additional bug fixes and related firmware improvements. Below is a quick three step walkthrough on how to manually update the firmware. Please note that you must have already installed 5.00 M33, as detailed above, in order to begin this process.

1. Download the 5.00 M33-6 update files and extract the archive.
2. Copy the UPDATE folder contained in the archive to /PSP/GAME folder
3. Navigate to the Game menu on the PSP and execute the 5.00 M33-6 update program. Then follow the on-screen instructions to update your firmware.

when u clicked and open the folder named "PSP" and you will see this page. click the "GAME" folder and follow the below steps on where to put the "UPDATE" file at.

This is where u put the "UPDATE" folder at

Download link for CFW
So to be safe, upgrade to 4.01 first before upgrading to 5.00
Download 4.01 M33
Download 4.01 M33-2
Download 5.00 m33 (wireless connnection needed)
Download 5.00 m33-6 (upgrade to 5.00 m33 1st then this)

Hi there, you try rename the "EBOOT.PBP" to "401.PBP" without quote, see if can fix the problem.
