Over the years, there have been many great games for the PlayStation Portable that have become hits and we’re sure that we’ll see more great games for PSP in near future. One game that can potentially become a hit is the game called God Eater. God Eater is a third person game that resembles to Capcom’s Monster Hunter but God Eater is so much more than a Monster Hunter rip-off. God Eater has already been released in Japan in February 2010 but we’re expecting to see updated version in North America called God Eater Burst that will have additional content.

As for God Eater, it’s a super popular game in Japan and interesting thing about God Eater is that it has been sold in more than half million copies just three weeks after its release. As for the story of God Eater Burst, you play as young warrior that is on a mission to destroy powerful creature known as Aragami. Of course, you’re not alone on your mission and you’ll have to team up with other warriors in order to defeat this mighty creature. All warriors that are fighting against Aragami are given the name God Eater, therefore you must unite with other God Eaters in order to destroy this evil creature once and for all. Unlike Monster Hunter, this game has deep and interesting storyline that features voice acting and more than 100 missions. Besides single player that has 100 missions, there’s co-op multiplayer available as well via local ad-hoc wireless. Besides local ad-hoc, you can enjoy in co-op multiplayer with three AI controlled characters as well, but God Eater Burst provides the best gaming experience when it’s is played with real people via ad-hoc. I’ll have to admit that God Eater Burst resembles to Phantasy Star Portable 2 a lot. On the beginning of the game you create your own character and choose its physical appearance. You can create all sorts of characters by changing their hairstyle, hair color, clothing, skin, face and voice. In addition, you can also change weapons by using special materials. Speaking of weapons, all weapons are divided into three groups: Blade, Gun and Shield. Of course, each group of weapons has three subgroups that give you more diversity. Another great thing about weapons in God Eater Burst is that you can instantly switch between them and make all sorts of interesting tactics that way.

Before each mission you need to choose three teammates that you’ll lead into the current mission. After you’ve chosen them you’re deployed to the battlefield and this is when the fun starts. Again we’ll have to admit that this game resembles to Phantasy Star Portable 2 when it comes to gameplay. First thing that you’ll notice when you enter the battlefield are the three bars in the top left corner. Red bar stands for your health, while the green one stands for your ammo, and the last one represents your energy. You lead your character through a map in order to complete your objective and entire time you’ll carry a huge sword that is almost two times bigger than you. Interesting thing is that in God Eater Burst you can sprint but that will consume your energy bar so you’ll have to run from time to time in order to keep your character rested. All sorts of actions such as jumping and melee combos will drain your energy bar but it will recharge over if you don’t perform dashes or any other special attacks. Of course, in God Eater Burst you’re not limited to your melee attacks. If you’re tired of melee combat you can simply transform your sword into a gun or even into shield. I think that there are several version of the gun available and as for the gun you fire it by pressing the Triangle or the Square button. In order to make your aiming easier you’ll get the crosshair on your screen for precise aiming and another great thing when it comes to aiming is that you can strafe while firing. Another interesting thing is that you can transform your sword into some form of monster that probably gives you more attack power. As for the monsters that you fight, they are big and challenging so fighting them with your friends in co-op is always a great fun. Combat looks great and intense although it’s not flashy like in Phantasy Star Portable 2, but it will surely keep you occupied for some time.

Overall, God Eater Burst looks promising enough and it will provide you with intense combat sequences and great co-op. As for release date, we’re expecting to see God Eater Burst in North America exclusively for PSP in 2011.
