Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Preview

Square Enix is famous because of its amazing games that provide interesting but again quite emotional story. Games from Square Enix are often a lot more than games since they are focusing on emotional development of the main characters. It’s not rare that you relate yourself with a character from a certain game, especially if that game comes from Square Enix. As you know, Final Fantasy series comes from Square Enix, and it’s the one of the most famous RPG titles in the world because it provides interesting and emotional story. Besides Final Fantasy, another interesting series comes from Square Enix and that’s Kingdom Hearts. If you don’t like standard turned based RPGs such as Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts will be perfect for you if you prefer something more action based. Trust me, any game from Kingdom Hearts series will make you feel like you’re a child again because story is focusing on childhood themes such as love and friendship. If you want something that has more action and violence, than Kingdom Hearts might not be the game for you. Instead, if you want to feel young and like a kid again feel free to enjoy any Kingdom Hearts game. One thing about these games that will make you feel like a kid again are the cartoon characters. Yes, I’m serious, Square Enix is working with Disney when it comes to Kingdom Hearts series so you’ll see your favorite Disney characters that you loved when you were a kid. You’ll even visit most of the locations that you’ve seen in those cartoons, so that’s a really amazing experience.

As for the Kingdom Hearts itself, there were many sequels and now we’re hoping to see the latest installment of the series that is called Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. Once again, it’s the story about friendship but this time it’s not the sequel to the Kingdom Hearts 2, instead story takes place ten years before the first Kingdom Hearts. Story follows three friends, Terra, Aqua, and Ventus. You might not remember but these characters had a brief appearance in Kingdom Hearts 2. Anyway, I have to admit that main protagonist Terra looks the same as Roxas from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. Why is that so, I do not know. Maybe they are somehow connected on similar way as Roxas and Sora were. Anyway, we’re going to find out more about that when the game is released.

Great thing about Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is that you’ll have three different scenarios. That means that you’ll be able to play as any of the three characters. Of course, you’ll be able to switch from one character to another during the current scenario. Just like in previous Kingdom Hearts games, you’ll visit all sorts of worlds from Disney’s universe. You’ll even meet some of the characters such as Snow White and seven dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Besides Princesses you’ll meet all sorts of other characters. For example, you’ll visit Olympus Coliseum and meet Hercules, Lilo & Stitch and even Peter Pan. Interesting about this game is that you’ll actually be in the Neverland and not on the Captain Hook’s pirate ship. Of course, there will be many other worlds as well so we’re looking forward to it.

Gameplay is filled with action and all fans of Kingdom Hearts will feel familiar with it, although there are some changes. You attack using the X button, jump by pressing the Circle button, and dodge by pressing a Square button. Just like in the previous games, you use menus to activate special abilities and spells. This time, there are certain card docks where you can place your abilities and spells and use them quickly with Triangle button while in combat. In addition, you can use certain powers that some of the characters that you’re not using have with the new Dimension Link feature. This is perfect when you’re fighting with a boss but you don’t have certain abilities to defeat him. There’s one more move available, Shot Lock, that is used to blast several opponents at once and it is performed by holing L and R buttons together.

So what can we expect from the Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep? If you’re a fan of Kingdom Heart series, this is the game that you mustn’t miss. Game looks amazing on PSP, story is promising and refreshing and gameplay is improved. Anyway, we’re looking forward to the final release on September 7 in USA and September 10 in Europe.
