We have seen many interesting games for the PlayStation Portable but I think that nothing can compare to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Metal Gear series needs no introduction so it’s enough to say that Metal Gear is a franchise that has invented the stealth genre on all gaming platforms. Metal Gear franchise is created by Hideo Kojima and it’s one of the best selling gaming franchises from Konami. First Metal Gear was released in 1987 but it has achieved its greatest success on PlayStation in 1998. Since then we have seen several Metal Gear Solid games and now here comes the latest installment of Metal Gear Solid series exclusively for the PlayStation Portable.

As you know, we’ve already seen several Metal Gear Solid games for the PlayStation Portable so let’s see what the latest Metal Gear Solid game has to offer. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker follows the same gameplay mechanics as the previous Metal Gear game for the PSP, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. In order to understand the story of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker you need to understand the story behind Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. I’ll just say that in Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake (also known as the Big Boss) has betrayed his mentor and in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops story is about Snake and his rouge army called FOX. In Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker story takes place in Costa Rica, four years after the events of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops.
Just like previous games, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is a stealth game that is using third person camera. This means that you need to navigate Snake through missions without being seen or heard. Speaking of stealth in this game, Snake can easily neutralize its opponents with close quarter combat moves. Interesting thing is that close quarter combat moves are easier to perform than before simply by holding the right shoulder button. That way you can grab your opponent in a sleeper hold, interrogate him, or throw him at wall or at other opponents. Interesting thing about close quarter combat moves is that you can perform several of them with a timed button press and disarm several enemies that way. Just like in the Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops you can capture enemies and add them to your own army, but unlike in the previous game entire process is much simpler and faster. In previous game you had to knock the enemy out and carry it to the truck in order to capture him but now it’s a lot easier. All that you have to do is to knock the enemy out and attach him to a balloon so that the helicopter can pick him up. Every captured enemy can be assigned to a different division of your army such as combat, development and similar. Each captured enemy will help you to get new weapons, items and upgrades or it will aid you in combat so capturing enemies is crucial. You can send captured enemies to missions or order them to develop new weapons or even order them to develop your own Metal Gear.

Interesting thing is that each mission is a single task and before each mission you can select and change your equipment. Speaking of missions before each mission you’ll see a cutscene that will explain the part of the plot. As for the cutscenes, they look like comics and they are simply amazing. Konami did an amazing job with cutscenes and even if they are on handheld device such is PlayStation Portable they look breathtaking.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker offers interesting story but besides deep story there are 100 additional missions as well. As for the multiplayer, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker offers interesting co-op mode that is available only via ad-hoc in which you can play the story mode or any of 100 additional missions with your friends.

What can we say about Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker? Well it’s without the doubt one of the best games for the PSP. Everything in this game is awesome: long and interesting story, graphics, sound and atmosphere. Everything is optimized for PSP and it looks simply amazing, and it is without the doubt the best Metal Gear game that you’ll find on handheld device so make sure that you don’t miss this great game.
