Patapon 3 Preview

I’ve seen many games as a gamer, but despite all the games that I’ve played I was always looking for something different, new and refreshing. Several games could fit in that category such as LittleBigPlanet and Patapon. When it comes to the Patapon, it could be described as a mixture of strategy and rhythm game. In Patapon you’re leading army throughout the world and your goal is to defeat anyone that stands in your way. You have to carefully select your units, upgrade them and buy all sorts of items to improve your stats before each battle. There are many types of units available and only way to defeat your enemy is to carefully select them. After you’ve selected your units it is time to join the battle. When it comes to battle, it’s a simple rhythm game and you need to press the face buttons in order to attack your enemy. Patapon isn’t just a simple button mashing rhythm game, it’s so much more with its unique atmosphere and graphics and it’s no wonder that we’ve seen two Patapon games already. Now we are waiting for the third installment of Patapon series.

From what I’ve found out Patapon 3 is going to be bit different than previous games. Unlike in previous games you’re not leading the entire army, instead your are leading one great hero. Although some fans might be disappointed that you’re playing with only one hero, that doesn’t mean that the game is bad or something like that. The main reason why are you playing as a single hero is that developers want to focus more on multiplayer in this game. Therefore, you’ll find out that the Patapon army has been defeated and that only three heroes have survived. It’s up to you to choose one of them and to defeat your enemies once more. All three heroes are basically the same except they have different weapons and colors. In Patapon 3 you are not alone and on your way through the game you’ll revive other Patapon soldiers. As you gather and lead your little army you will have to control them with the face buttons. For example, you have to play certain notes in order to perform certain actions. There are four notes that you use to control your army: ‘chaka,’ ‘pon,’ ‘don,’ and ‘pata’ and they are assigned to Triangle, Circle, X, and Square buttons. Just as in any other rhythm game, game awards you if you manage to hit all the buttons without any mistakes. There is a fever meter from second game that will charge if you don’t make any mistakes. If the fever meter becomes full, your units will become more powerful but unlike in previous game you can charge your meter even more. If you manage to keep the rhythm even when your meter is full it will become yellow and spiky giving your units more power. In addition, your hero can level up by collecting items and develop into other forms of Patapon just like in the previous games.

As mentioned earlier Patapon 3 is focused on multiplayer and it allows you to play co-op campaign or capture the flag mode with eight people via ad hoc or online. Multiplayer option will be great and will provide hours of fun for the players, but multiplayer is not the selling point of Patapon series. Just like previous Patapon games, Patapon 3 will feature same amazing graphics and atmosphere. If you don’t know, Patapon look like silhouettes in a cartoony world and it really feels like you’re watching a cartoon while playing this game. Sound is good and it’s really cartoony so if you’re not into that kind of thing you’ll probably find it annoying.

Overall, Patapon 3 offers amazing graphics, great multiplayer and great sound effects. It’s really something special that will provide you 80 missions and more than 20 bosses. As for the release date, we’re expecting to see Patapon 3 on November 1st.
