There are many tactical role-playing games available on the PlayStation Portable and it seems like we’re going to see more of them in near future. Besides PlayStation Portable, tactical role-playing games are available on all sorts of consoles and PlayStation 3 is not an exception. Speaking of tactical RPGs, one of the best tactical role-play games on PlayStation 3 is the Valkyria Chronicles developed by Sega WOW and published by Sega. Valkyria Chronicles was released and it has achieved great success on the PS 3. As you remember, game takes place in the fictional War World 2 universe and you need to lead your military squad in order to complete certain missions. After the success of the first Valkyria Chronicles time has come to see a sequel of this amazing game, and since sequel has already been announced it should be available soon enough. Sega is the leading developer and publisher for Valkyria Chronicles 2 and it should be available exclusively for the PlayStation Portable in near future.
As mentioned before, Valkyria Chronicles 2 is being developed and published by Sega and it will be available in near future for the PlayStation Portable. Will the sequel on the handheld device such as PSP be worthy of the original game that has already been seen on PS3? We’re here to find out.
From what we find out story is set two years after the events of Valkyria Chronicles and story is focused on a small European country called Gallia and its civil war. In order to put the civil war to an end Gallian army has sent recruits from military academy and your objective is to lead them. So far, there’s not much information about the story itself but famous Valkyria Chronicles gameplay is here on the PlayStation Portable at its best.
As for the combat, it looks like in the original game, but now we have a chance to take a overhead look at our map in order to see where our friendly units are deployed. It’s a great strategically improvement and in some missions it might be a key to success. When the combat starts you have overhead view of the battlefield and you can see where are your units and enemies located. Besides that, you have certain number of command points that are located in the top left part of your screen. You use those combat points to move your characters and each time when you decide to move a character one combat point is spent. Luckily, you’re not limited one combat point per character but you can only move one character at the time. Interesting thing is that after you choose your character game switches to third person and you move your character on the same way like in the third person shooter. After you switch to the third person view you have to move your character quickly before the bar on the bottom of the screen runs out. Interesting thing is that the bar on the bottom runs down while you’re moving your character so you’ll have to plan each and every move in advance. While you’re in the third person you can move freely until the enemy spots you. If that happens, enemy will start firing so you can simply run or shoot at him. If you decide to shoot, game will freeze and you’ll have a chance to aim carefully and kill your enemy that way. As you progress and get more experience you’ll get a chance to develop your characters and unlock additional classes. As for the graphics, it looks quite decent for the handheld device such as PlayStation Portable and if you enjoy in anime and cartoony graphics you’re going to love Valkyria Chronicles 2. According to the developers, Valkyria Chronicles 2 will have more than hundred missions and it will provide us twenty different environments. Besides that, developers are planning to introduce versus and cooperative multiplayer modes in Valkyria Chronicles 2 that will surely be a blast.
Valkyria Chronicles 2 will be one great tactical RPG for the PlayStation Portable that will provides us with hours of fun. Official release is scheduled for August 31st.
